Today I woke up, had some pineapple and papaya. Around 9:00am we went to chapel on the hospital grounds. We sat on benches and watched the service. At chapel we got summoned to the front and introduced to everyone. The service was 2 hours long and considered a short service...It was shocking to see so many little kids attend church. All of them were absolutely adorable and the mass was all in swahili. At one point during mass people brought up bags and later I learned these were offerings and auctioned off directly after chapel ended. We all gathered around to watch the auction and the stick I saw as an offering ended up being sugar cane. The rest of the offerings were various items such as fruit and vegetables. After church I finally saw the awesome view from our backyard at the house. I also called my family to assure them that I was safe and sound. I thought I would be homesick instantly but this hasn't happen yet. After eating lunch we went to Rachel's house. She is a teacher that my professor's had known from previous years. Rachel's house was very nice compared to other places we have seen. Upon arrival Rachel greeted the group with ground nuts and hot chai tea. After drinking tea and eating ground nuts she took us to a "kitchen party" aka bridal shower that was just down the road. We sat on straw mats underneath a tent to escape the afternoon sun. There were so many people singing and dancing, the party did not start on time (3 hours later). But this is "Africa time" after all. At the party as a kind gesture we ate more ground nuts and drank soda. After the party we presented the bride with a gift from the group by joining a line of dancing ladies. Before the party ended we had to leave so we could make it home before dark.
